NEW MEMBERS:
All SLR programming is based on the adult learning methodology of active, participatory learning. In our study groups, all members make a short presentation during each term, sharing what they know/have learned about any topic they have chosen within the main subject area. A full group discussion follows each presentation.
New members are encouraged to give a presentation, but if they feel they simply can’t, then they are given the option of auditing their first course. Permission to audit can be initiated at any time by either the new member or the moderator. New members who are auditing are asked to participate in the discussion period and pay the full fee.
To assist new (and current) members, SLR offers a Presentation Workshop prior to the start of each term. This workshop helps ease the concerns of giving a presentation. All new members are encouraged to attend. As well, study group moderators are very helpful and supportive resources.
COURSE CANCELLATIONS DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER:
If any or all of the following are closed due to the weather, then SLR is closed: UWO, Fanshawe, the elementary or secondary schools of the Thames Valley School Board, and/or the LTC.
Moderators will advise course members before 8:30 a.m., either by phone or email.
If any member believes it is too dangerous to travel, they should remain home and notify their moderator(s) by 8:30 a.m. or leave a message on the SLR phone (519-438-3525) by 9:00 a.m.
PARKING:
SLR is guaranteed 25 parking spaces at all times.
Recently the Mount put up “reserved parking” signs on many spaces, making the parking situation confusing. There is ample parking off the Windermere Road entrance to the far left where the Guest House is located. It is appreciated that all able-bodied members park in that location so any members who need closer parking can access those spaces not marked “reserved” nearer the door.
If any problem, let your moderator know.
